Trickbox Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

This policy explains how the Trickbox app for Android (package com.trickbox) and for iPhone (bundle ID com.trickbox) handles information. Trickbox is made by Trick Studio, a solo developer based in France (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for the app under FR data protection law.

The short version

  • Trickbox has no online accounts and never asks for your email, contacts, photos or precise location.
  • Your high scores, username, avatar, achievements, stats and settings are stored only on your phone.
  • The app shows ads from Google AdMob. Google collects some device and usage data to show and measure those ads. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, you’re asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time.
  • If you use Google Play Games (Android) or Game Center (iPhone), your achievements or scores are shared with that service.
  • We don’t collect or sell personal information ourselves.

1. Information stored on your device

Trickbox saves your furthest question, your Shuffle mode best score, whether Shuffle mode is unlocked, your username and avatar, your achievements, your play statistics (such as runs played and accuracy), and game settings in the app’s own storage on your phone. This information never leaves your device, and we can’t see it. You can clear your high scores with “Reset high scores” in Settings, clear everything by clearing the app’s storage in your phone’s settings, or uninstall the app.

2. Advertising (Google AdMob)

Trickbox is free to play and is funded by ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited). A banner appears on the menu and Game over screens, and a full-screen ad may appear after some game overs. To show, measure and protect these ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK built into the app automatically collects and shares the following with Google:

  • Device or other identifiers: your advertising ID and similar app and device identifiers, used for advertising, measurement, frequency capping and fraud prevention.
  • Approximate location: estimated from your IP address (not GPS), used to show ads suitable for your region and for fraud prevention.
  • App interactions: for example app launches, ad views and taps on ads, used for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention.
  • Diagnostics: for example crash logs, app launch time and performance data from the ads SDK, used for analytics and to keep ads working reliably.

This data is encrypted in transit. Google uses it as described in “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services” (https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites) and the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). We don’t receive this data in a form that identifies you; we only see aggregated reports, such as how many ads were shown.

iPhone: App Tracking Transparency. On iPhone, Google may use your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow tracking when Apple’s “Allow Trickbox to track your activity?” prompt appears. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, the identifier is not shared and you’ll see less personalised ads. You can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

Your ad choices

  • UK, EEA and Switzerland: the first time you open Trickbox, a consent message from Google’s User Messaging Platform asks whether you agree to personalised ads. If you don’t consent, you may still see non-personalised or limited ads. You can change your choice at any time with Ad privacy settings in the Trickbox Settings screen. Your choice is stored on your device.
  • Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your phone’s settings (usually Settings > Google > Ads, or Settings > Privacy > Ads).
  • iPhone: turn tracking off for Trickbox (or all apps) in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and personalised Apple ads in Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising.

3. Game Center (iPhone)

If you’re signed in to Apple’s Game Center, Trickbox submits your furthest story question and your best Shuffle mode score to Trickbox leaderboards. Game Center is run by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). Your scores and Game Center nickname can be seen by other players according to your Game Center settings. We don’t receive your Apple ID or contact details.

4. Google Play Games (Android)

On Android, if you’re signed in to Google Play Games, Trickbox sends your unlocked achievements to Google so they appear in your Play Games profile. Google Play Games is run by Google under the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and may collect your gamer identity (gamer tag and avatar), achievements and game progress, and diagnostic information. Your Play Games profile visibility is controlled in your Play Games settings, and you can delete your Play Games data from your Play Games profile (https://play.google.com/games/profile). Your Trickbox username and avatar are not sent to Google Play Games.

5. What we don’t do

  • We don’t ask for, collect or store your email address, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location.
  • The app doesn’t request location, camera, microphone, photos or contacts permissions. The only permission prompt is Apple’s tracking prompt on iPhone.
  • There are no online accounts, chat or shared user-generated content. Your username stays on your phone.
  • We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use your data for anything other than running the game and its ads.

6. Legal bases (UK GDPR and EU GDPR)

Where the law requires it, personalised advertising relies on your consent, collected through the consent message described above. Non-personalised ads, ad measurement, fraud prevention and keeping the app secure rely on our legitimate interests in funding a free game and keeping it safe, balanced against your rights. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting ads shown before you did.

7. How long data is kept

Game data on your phone is kept until you reset it, clear the app’s storage or uninstall Trickbox. Data collected by Google or Apple is kept according to their own retention policies, described in their privacy policies.

8. International transfers

Google and Apple may process data in countries outside France, including the United States. They use safeguards recognised under UK and EU law for these transfers.

9. Children

Trickbox is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app and that personal data has been collected through its ads, please contact us and we’ll help.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Because we don’t hold personal data that identifies you, most requests about ad, Play Games or Game Center data are best made to Google (https://myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy) or Apple. You can still contact us about anything in this policy. If you’re in France and unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the ma securitĂ© interieur (https://www.masecurite.interieur.gouv.fr/en/procedures/online-complaint).

11. Changes to this policy

If the app changes the way it handles data, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will also be reflected in the app’s store listings.
